DISTANCE FROM PARKING AREA TO COMPETITION CENTER AND PRESTART: 1800 meters / 23 minutes by walking.
Date: Saturday 17th February (in the morning).
Map: La Muela del Fontanar.
Course Planner: José Aº García Murcia.
Opinion of the course planner - Long distance:
The area where the long distance race will take place is on the so called massif of Cairel, in the northern part of Sierra Espuña. This terrain offers moderate slopes that can be steeper around some dry rivers and on the west part of the massif. This relief, together with the vegetation, will be decisive in the route choice of the long legs. Plenty of cliffs, rocks, outcrop rocks, and small re-entrants in some areas will force the competitors to use their map reading skills to the best of their ability.
The race has been designed to make the route choice the most decisive aspect, but the short legs, with continuous changes of direction, will make a very dynamic and demanding race.
WARM UP MAP: A small warm up map to use in an area on the way to the start will be available at the competition centre.
REFRESHMENT: The water (refreshment) point will be marked on the map and distributed on the paths. It is totally forbidden to take the bottles out of the designated area.
CLOTHING: As it is rocky terrain we strongly recommend that you protect your ankles as well as the use of rubber-soled shoes. Long-sleeved shirts are also advisable.
M-E CLASS: This category will be divided into two sub-categories. Every competitor will be assigned to a category and it is his responsibility to pick up the correct map. All competitors will do the same race.
